In order to complete the 4 hours required for my religion ISP, I chose to volunteer with the Goodwill Charity of Ontario. Founded in 1902 by Reverend Edgar J. Helms, Goodwill is a non-profit organization with roots in the US, Canada, and 14 other countries. For over 100 years, Goodwill has provided care for the underprivileged and disabled through many initiatives such as food drives, donation drop offs, and community outreach. As previously stated, Goodwill was founded in 1902 by Reverend Edgar J. Helms of the Morgan Methodist church in Boston.
Besides the new civic organizations, there has been an influx of nonprofit organizations and support groups. Secondary associations tend to be nonprofits; nonetheless because of the uprising in nonprofit organizations it’s a mistake to assume that nonprofit agencies carry secondary association. Additionally, because the whole “a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square” analogy pertains to nonprofits, conceptually we can’t use the trend between nonprofit organizations and social connectedness. Support groups are dissimilar in a way that it is a method of social connectedness but still does not provide the same properties as traditional civic associations. Putnam refers to Robert Wuthnow regarding support groups, “small groups merely provide occasions for individuals to focus on themselves in the presence of others” (Putnam, “Bowling Alone: America’s Declining Social Capital” p. 390).
Organizations that operate for-profit healthcare argue that they offer patients more options and flexibility. On the other hand, nonprofits claim to provide a superior patient experience and are more cost-effective. In keeping with their charitable mission and community focus, nonprofit hospitals are often affiliated with a particular religious denomination. For-profit hospitals are either owned by investors or shareholders of a publicly-traded company. For-profit healthcare entities are more likely to prioritize treatments that generate higher profits, such as open-heart surgeries.
It was spectacular to learn that Keystone Community Services is a non-profit organization. The funding sources and mission of Keystone Community Services was intriguing and powerful to see an organization that strives to improve a quality of life. In addition, it was amazing to learn about the multi-services program provided under Keystone Community Services. However, I reconsidered and would like to point a change in the organizations. As I understand not only do Keystone Community Services own community reach out, but other nearby communities reach out Keystone assistances.

The history of one of today’s greatest non-profit organizations, Johns Hopkins Hospital, starts first with one humble entrepreneur who dreamed of a better life for people all across the globe. The Terry Fox Foundation (TFF) is an organization founded in 1980 after Terry Fox, a 20-year old patient with bone cancer, ran his Marathon of Hope 5300 km across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Any time a scandal of this magnitude is exposed; donors tighten their grip on contributions, making it difficult for the thousands of honest and hard-working nonprofit charities to secure resources for their organizations. 2-c. Wounded Warrior Project –This recent scandal will halt donations from many supporters of the WWP organization, causing more suffering to our wounded and disabled veterans. Though many projects will continue, several issues will stall important operations within the charity. With limited sources of assistance, our veterans depend on volunteers, donations and funding from outside the US Federal Government. 3-c.
Its weaknesses include operating with a small staff and office space. Its external threats include losing out on opportunities by not partnering with similar nonprofits, and changing social capital and its relationship with the community it serves. There are many opportunities for growth. The ASPC should expand their staff and office space, explore and partner with other nonprofits through Forefront, and use strategic communication to expand their nonprofit to other cities. The ASPC has brought development and opportunities to over 10,000 young people over the last eight years.
With regard to monetary resources, nonprofit organizations are income tax exempt, according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS); yet the level at which charitable giving is tax deductible varies according the IRS categories of nonprofit organizations (Worth, 2017). Ultimately, this privilege should cause nonprofit organizations, regardless of where how they operate with the spectrum of the two models, to effectively expend resources. Specifically, the volunteer spirit model encourages volunteerism centered on a democratic philosophy of sharing the burden of the cause, and this create a more effective foundation for using charitable donations directly for the cause or service (Brainard & Siplon, 2004). In contrast, the economic model, leaning toward paid staff and relying on material or monetary incentives, may be using charitable donations ineffectively (2004).
This is because there is no stock or stock exchanges; instead, it is only run by a board of directors (Hopkins, 2009). All the entities of non-profit organization are registered under state law. Non–profit organizations revenues are generated to achieve their goals instead of distributing them as dividends or profit (Grobman, 2008). Therefore, the members, officers or director in the non-profit organization will not receive any part of the organization income or profit except the payment for their services. The surplus can be used to expand the organization according to their mission
