Is college the right path for you? Lawrence B. Schlack believes that going to college is not the best option for some students. I agree with Schlack that going to college isn’t for everyone. Upon the reasons that Schlack provided, I have decided to take a gap year after I graduate from high school. One reason why I want to take a gap year is to work. For example, with college tuition rising no more than 5% each year. If I work hard enough I’d make half or close to enough to pay for some of my college tuition. In the article, “Not Going to College is a Viable Option,” explains that a gap year is the year where people take time off to travel, work, and help in public services. Schlack also states that “Many could profit by simply going to work.” This is important because I can also start building my work experience. There are many jobs that doesn’t require any work experience. However, taking job opportunities related to my career path would gain me valuable experience. For example, I might want to be a mechanic, I can be an intern at a shop gaining some kind of knowledge. If I wanted to go with that career path, I’d already have experience. Just in case I don’t want to work or work half of the gap year then travel. Traveling would provide me benefits, such as learning new countries and culture. Visiting sites that I’ve never seen. Also helps me step out of my comfort zone and get a new perspective. Since the gap year is so long, you’ll have more time to get to know the place better.
