Learning Journal: Unit 3
We got to really work on developing some html this week. Using codeacademy.com we got to have some experience implementing many of the basics of a web site and handling links, adding media, and altering various styles. I inadvertently started taking one of the other courses on the site and learned a little bit about CSS which it looks like we’ll be covering more next week. For our discussion post we went over some ideas regarding social media, but I would have liked to have gotten a little more info about incorporating it into web design.

I didn’t especially feel like I gained much from feedback, but I definitely learned some more from other student’s discussion posts. It made me wonder about optimal ways to work social media into a site design beyond just including links to the services.
• What happened that felt particularly challenging? Why was it challenging to me?
Actually, making my own html document was challenging. After taking the codeacademy course I thought it was going to be fairly straight forward, but I didn’t actually find it to be such. I needed to try and re-attempt things more times than I expected. It was satisfying when I actually got things to function as intended. I’m hoping once we get into using CSS I’ll be able to be more versatile
• What skills and knowledge do I recognize that I am gaining?
I can now make a basic web page that includes the most necessary functions a page needs using html. It might not be “beautiful” yet, but now I can make it or even go back into someone else’s code and likely alter or update certain aspects.
