Nursery 25 In nursery 25 the pigs that were one week weaned filled out and gotten off to a good start. The pigs in nursery 25 north looked the best, they are the ones up on the soy processors diet. Just seemed to be either through sort or through growth or less fall behind pig in that room. I had down, 10 subpar pigs verse 50 in the south. Bill said he sorted after I looked at them last week so I don’t know how much of that is fall back or how much due to sort. When I say fall back pigs it’s just that the average wean weight in the rooms was 16 lb., but one load came in at 13.6 lb. so we have a little more variation going in right off the start. They probably need to be on pellets a week longer. The reality is the pigs were all still on pellets in the Kombach room and switched over to the grinding mix ration in the soy processors room. Regardless the north room had only lost two pigs, the south room had only lost three pigs, so off to a good start. Activity was excellent. Bill and I had a lengthy discussion about ventilation and temperature settings. My rules of thumb are the following: humidity 50%- 60% never of 70%, air speed 800 feet per minute, temperature should be adjusted from there but on pigs like this should be around 78 degrees. Mark here look for better gauge. I left Bill Kestral 5500 meter so that he can adjust and monitor the temperature correctly. Admittedly the barns were set up more for a finishing barn and being manually adjusted. After trying fine tune the barns, we ended up calling Lenord Shepner to adjust the barns from there.
