My simple definition of nursing is someone who helps heal and care for their patients. Being a nurse involves being able to adapt and honing a wide range of skills in order to provide the best care for their patient possible. Nursing is most definitely a healthy combination of both art and science. Medication requires specific scientific measurement, a scientific diagnosis is important for treatment. At the same time there’s many responsibilities and traits a nurse should have that isn’t considered scientific: compassion, knowing how to talk to a patient, figuring out what a patient might need that is something that can’t be “prescribed”, and much more. Our bodies are part of us, but they don’t make up the entire person that we are. If you lose some hair or cut off the ends of your fingernails are you still you? More seriously, if you lose a body part or the ability to do something you once could, like walk, are you still you? I think most people, myself included, would say yes, you are still you. Now if you lose your memory or some of your memories, are you still you? I’d say probably not. I think our memories and experiences make up the person that we are. It can be where someone lives, goes to school, works, or visits frequently. Environment can absolutely be a huge influence on health. Being in a bad environment can add stress to a person's life which can cause or aggravate health problems. An environment can be unhealthy for a number of different reasons. People in it can make it toxic, the work you’re doing can make it toxic, and the actual environment itself can be toxic. Flint, Michigan is a perfect example of a toxic environment. The people drinking that water could do nothing about it, and suffered because of it. There can obviously be good environments as well. A good environment is one that fosters your health instead of inhibiting it. Maybe you have a really strong community that supports and helps each other, maybe you live and work in very clean
