On 03-21-2016, at approximately 9:25 am CSA Stewart observed Jalin D’Angelo Brown entering the search area with a grocery bag with a half of peanut butter and jelly sandwich with an unusual smell. Mr. Stewart asks Jalin Brown what was in the bag and Jalin replied, “It’s just a sandwich.” Upon a closer investigation of the sandwich, CSA Stewart realized that the sandwich was layered with an illegal substance. He took a closer look and noticed that it was “Marijuana called, “Loud,” which was over the interior of the bag. Jalin Brown was turned over to the Dean of Students (Mr. Barnes) and SRO Friday who also confirmed that the sandwich was layered with marijuana.
Hi Mia, It is interesting to read how SBAR is utilized in other areas. AT YRMC in Yuma we use SBAR, but is relayed face to face or via phone. I agree with you that although it is a convenience to have the patient’s information faxed from the ED to the floor the patient is going to, I can see where this can pose a problem. There are many obstacles that the nurse may face in receiving or relaying a patient hand-off, these being “communication challenges [which] can be a result of human factors, such as poor communication skills; lack of resources to support communication training; lack of support for active communication in the clinical setting; or an inappropriate environment for handoff due to interruptions” (Cudjoe, 2016, p.1) all factors
The idea of shift work is a common one, but for nurses this is not a simple changing of staff during a certain time, change of shift signifies a time of purposeful communication between nurses and patients, in order to promote patient safety and best practices (Caruso, 2007). During this time, there is the possibility for this critical opportunity to relay important information to become disorganized by extraneous information, rather than concentrating on the needs of the patient (Sullivan, 2010). Often the patient is left out of the conversation, and is not a part of the process. Patients and families can play an important role in making sure these transitions in care are safe and effective (AHRQ, 2013).
For example, the independent variable in this particular question is, pregnant women. Before a PICOT question can be formed a problem must be identified. PICOT format will guide the nurse to develop a question that can be answered using evidence based practice journal articles. Answering the PICOT question can ensure nursing practice to grow and develop with the
With the use of consistent handoff tools, there is likely not a missing piece of information that leaves the receiving nurse with gaps in any information. The inconsistency of use of different tools such as SBAR (Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation) or electronic handoff methods is where information gets lost. The use of SBAR is commonly used to maintain uniform communication. In example of the use of SBAR against the situation mention earlier, the known history of imprisonment with bloody sputum were not mentioned in the background or assessment piece of handoff. Not only did this impact patient safety but also the safety of nursing staff.
First, a brief summary of the study, including the background, objectives, methods, intervention, findings, and conclusion will be posted in an online nursing forum (INC, 2012). Next, a formal research report with all relevant information listed above, literature review, and evaluation tools used during the study will be presented to the local chapter of the American Nurses Association (ANA). The ANA can assist with disseminating the findings to other members within the organization (INC,
Rhetorical Analysis of a Scholarly Article Proposal Healthcare has become one of the most demanding professions a person can go into. As Laureen J. Hayes discusses in her article, Nurse Turnover, the demands placed on nurses has reduced the amount of people willing and able to do this job, effecting the entirety of health care. Since Hayes knows her target audience, she is able to determine the most effective way to express her point. Implementing research and studies done on the topic improves the ethos of the article. With the improved credibility, people are more willing to trust the author and the purpose of the paper will be better understood.
What particular value will the nurse representative bring to the board unique and different from that already presented? Nursing provides the highest amount of patient contact care, providing care at the bedside throughout out the patient’s entire stay in the hospital. Fran Roberts, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, makes an excellent point when she describes a nurses perspective of a hospital from the inside out, offering a view that no other healthcare provider can (Roberts, 2014). Dr. Roberts goes on to explain that this unique perspective provides insight that no other board members can bring to the table, such as what it 's like to work short staffed, at what point patient safety becomes compromised, and experiences that no one can offer other than another nurse (Roberts, 2014).

Nurses play an essential role in the healthcare industry. The nurse workforce is made up of licensed nurses: registered nurses (RNs), licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs), along with nurse aides. Registered nurses are responsible for assessments of patients’ needs, development of care plans, medication administration, and treatments, while licensed vocational nurses perform specific care under the delegation of the registered nurses and supervisions. Nursing aides perform activities of daily living (unskilled attention) to the patient. Adequate nursing staffing is essential to both patient care and outcomes, also to the retention of nurses while inadequate staffing creates problems for both the patients and
The primary goals of the mock survey are to raise the awareness of nurse managers, educate staff, reduce anxiety, display support and provide for gathering any identified needs. A self-evaluation tool that could prove helpful in decreasing apprehension is called the mock survey which simulates the site visit process and provides standards review similar to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) parameters. The evaluation for accreditation by JCAHO can induce considerable concern for chief nursing executives and staff. This method of self-evaluation was implemented at the Department of Nursing of Genesee Hospital in Rochester, New York. All interview tools used in the survey were developed using information

Delegation is defined as “transferring to a qualified unlicensed personnel the responsibility to perform a selected nursing task or activity in a selected patient situation that is within the job description of the one delegating” (deWit, Stromberg, & Dallred, 2017, p. 3). There are five rights that should be followed when delegating. Before delegating a task you must determine the person is competent to perform the task. Is it in their scope of practice? Are they skilled and knowledgeable enough to perform the task?
Registered nurses are required to deliver wide-range nursing attention and treatment to all persons in a healthcare setup (American Nurses ' Association, 2000). Notably, they have to offer emergency care and guarantee the safe execution of treatment. It is mandatory for nurses to demonstrate a broad knowledge of the laws and regulations that are in line with their profession. Additionally,
Introduction To date I have completed three classes and one group facilitation exam for this semester. The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate my personal and professional learning for the duration of the module. It will discuss the definition of group work; how I planned for my group exercise; it will outline my learning as a facilitator and observer for a thirty minute exercise. I will use Bruce Tuckman 's five stage group development model to outline the stages of the group process.
