There are many effects it takes to be a nurse, some good and some bad. There are many factors that can influence stress on a nurse and this also includes many pros, cons and effects. Nursing is a wonderful field to go into. There are many different job opportunities that can be experienced. Some people may wonder why anyone would ever want to be a nurse considering how much time and stress it can impact on somebody's daily life. A lot of nurses go into the field knowing that there are going to be challenges that they will encounter. In the long run they know that all of the challenges will get them to where there want to be, which is a nurse. On the good side, there was a research done on the effects of stress on nurses. As they were studying this research, the results may suggest possible changes to the NHS to reduce nurse distress, improve patient care, and develop improved methods of investigating work related stress, retention, and patient care. On the bad side, the stress in nurses has been linked to negative outcomes for both staff and patients. The effects of all of this is that stress in nurses has been linked to reduced physical and physiological health, reduced job satisfaction, increased sickness absence, increased staff turnover, and poorer job performance. In the video, “Ted talks: Nursing burnout”, it gave many cons. Nurses feel that they have a need to get to there patients without showing stress or depression. Stress can cause burnout, which is something that can last for a long time. It is similar to depression. Other symptoms it can cause is emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced personal accomplishment, and negative feelings about oneself. This can cause nurses to become numb to their patients. Burnout is more common in younger nurses because the older ones are more used to the stress and know what to expect. Also, it is more common in people who are married or who have children. Burnout is something that should be taken very seriously because it can cause insomnia and it can cause you to feel angry, guilty and have a lot of frustration. In a second video I watched called, “ Top 5 reasons to become nurse.”, there were many positive aspect. Nursing is where there is always an opportunity to give. For example, nurses their all to their patients and putting them before themselves. Nurses can cause an improvement in someone’s life.
