OSHA Vs EPA Essay

Introduction
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are both federal agencies whose responsibilities include ensuring health and safety for the public. Both group has a specific focus, which they work towards to meet their responsibilities.
It is also important to understand how OSHA and EPA work together, even though they are different agencies. The two agencies have worked together on many instances and use a Memorandum of Understanding that exists between OSHA and the EPA, which outlines how the two agencies will cooperate and coordinate, to determine roles and responsibilities.
OSHA
OSHA is a part of the U.S. Department of Labor and is focused on ensuring individual work environments are safe for the employees (i.e.;

The responsibility of the EPA is protection and assuring compliance for environmental standards.
For aviation the EPA works in such areas as aircraft emissions and contrails. In most recent news, many environmental groups are pushing for EPA to have a more restrictive approach to lead emissions for aircraft in addition the rules implemented in July 2012. Many different studies have been conducted, including “in 2011 a study from Duke University reported on the severe negative impacts of lead from aircraft, finding elevated levels of lead in the blood of those living within 500 meters of airports.” (Biron, 2014). The EPA has yet to respond to the requests for a change.
