Oakridge School: An Observation The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the campus was. It was a place that looked secure and welcoming. I liked how one the schoolmasters was the one who greeted us and informed us of the day’s itinerary. I think the element of having different houses in the school is awesome and fosters healthy competition among students. Before reaching my assigned classroom I noticed a plethora of inspirational graphics. In my class, I noticed the demographic were mostly Caucasians, but there was other ethnicities as well. There were no student-made works hanging in the classroom. There were teacher produced visuals, which I learned that every teacher had hanging in their classrooms across the campus. Alsip was the name of the teacher. She is a TCU graduate, with a Masters of education. She treated the students with respect and humility. The students seemed respectful and responsive to her teaching methods. They were told to work on an assignment in pairs. The students worked diligently until she presented them with the next phase of the lesson. There were hardly any discipline problems. One of the students made a comment and racism was brought up. Mrs. Alsip interjected promptly and quelled the situation before it could advance further. She had zero tolerance for misbehaving. There was no incentive program in place to help motivate the students, but the students had their own drive and probably did not need one. There were three things which made a big impression on me. First, Mrs. Alsip was able to teach English, one of my favorite subjects, with the latest technological advancements. Each students had an apple electronic device Second, I was really impressed by the student’s ability to continue working, although they conversed a lot about non-school related topics. Lastly, I liked how she approached her students. She treated them with the respect of an adult. Third, the campus itself was stunning. It felt like being on a college campus with little
