Liz, this is why I love you, we couldn’t be further away politically, but we have always been able to have honest discussions that didn’t lead to insults. This will be a long response, but there is a lot to say.
First I would like to say what Trump is doing with this EO is 100% legal. Under the U.S Constitution 8 U.S. Code 1182 Inadmissible Aliens “Whenever the President finds that entry of Any Aliens or of any class of Aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interest of the United States, he may by proclamation and for such periods as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restriction he may deem to be appropriate.”

The reason why no one remembers Obama’s 6-month pause in 2011 is because it wasn’t reported by the media and if it was it was likely a small article on the 7th page of the Washington Post.
Also I am reasonable enough to admit that I do not agree with the aspect of the EO that says if you have a Green Card and leave that you can’t come back, but I do agree with the rest of the EO.
I have talked to several people who work in the department of the State Department that grands Visas. They said it is not a ban it is a 120 pause until we can find a better way to vet those people who are coming into the country. Even with the ban America still accepts more refuges than any other country on Earth.
