On the crisp cold night of callbacks, I checked the website for the hundredth time to see if the cast list had finally been posted. In the play, every character has a dream. Whether it be about owning a house, owning a business, raising a happy and healthy family, or finding a place in the world, they all have aspirations for their futures. One member of the family, Beneatha, aims for the stars. She strives to be a fantastic doctor, more than anything else in the world. This specific dream takes time, effort, and money her family does not have. Not only that, due to her appearance, her family is unable to rise in social class to get more money to fund Beneatha’s dream. This hurdle in her life does not stop her at all however. In fact, the more people try and tell her to give up and try something new, the more she tries to rise above what she is told. She attempts to prove people wrong and show them just how fantastic she can be. Despite this, Beneatha must accept that there are limits in the world. She is not weaker by the end of the play, on the contrary, she becomes more accomplished in life due to her hindrance. Sutton grew up as a dancer, doing tap and jazz, rather than the singing and acting of musicals. However, as a middle schooler, her love for theatre was sparked and, when she was seventeen, she went to New York to work on Broadway. Over the years, Sutton grew as an actress and became the best she could be in all theatrical areas. Nevertheless, she continued to get ensemble and chorus, even though she was stunning.
