As Good As It Gets The character that I chose from the movie, As Good As It Gets, is Melvin Udall. Melvin has OCD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. OCD is a disorder of the brain and behavior. OCD causes severe anxiety in those affected. It involves both obsessions and compulsions that take a lot of time to overcome and get in the way of important activities the person values. Melvin also doesn’t go inside stores. Melvin doesn’t want to catch other people’s germs. Melvin ends up changing his life though. When Carol and Melvin are out for dinner, he tells her that he has changed because of her. He wants to be a better man thanks to her. He is now taking prescription medication to keep his disorders under hand. Melvin allows Carol to kiss him because he is now a changed man. He also ends up walking inside a bakery store at the end of the movie. He even pats Simon on the back. For Melvin to recovery even more he should go outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. He should help out others even if they might be sick. Also he doesn’t need to lock his doors or turn on his lights numerous times. He shouldn’t act cranky all the time. He should be able to adjust to his surroundings. It may take Melvin a long time to get trust in himself and others, but once he does, he won’t have to face a lot of problems anymore.
