As the days went past still no Odysseus my master I will not die without seeing him until then I will hold on to the grass and be the brave Odysseus dog and try to take the pain of these suitors not feeding me abusing me . I will hide under a mass of dung until I wish to see my Odysseus so I can let go. At last I see Odysseus and no it is ok to go when I see him from 20 years and about to die I finally let go as Odysseus walks past trying not to cry because of how I wasn 't taken care of and died. Argos still knows what he was feeling inside so he feels at peace at last and lets the grass go.

As Odysseus (disguised as an old beggar) is being lead back to his house by the swineherd, Argos immediately knows this stranger to be his Odysseus, and was the first to discover his true identity. Argos had been living for Odysseus, and was so overwhelmed with joy as he laid eyes upon him. Odysseus encounters many monsters and immortals throughout his homecoming journey. He faces everything from Sea Nymphs to Sirens, from Lotus Eaters to Cyclopes, and from Enchantresses to even the Gods themselves. Because Odysseus stuck through and pursued on, he finally returned to his wife and child. When Odysseus arrives in his homeland, Athena directs him to Eumaeus’ hut where he meets his son. At first, his son refuses to believe his father has come back, but eventually convinces himself his father has truly returned.
In Homer’s The Odyssey Odysseus goes on a journey to get back home from war. Along the way he goes through monsters, challenges, and obstacles that he has to face to make it back to reach his goal in the end. Heroes are, “People who take risks despite fear”(Source 2). In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus faces many challenges that make him a hero. He battles monsters, goddesses, and enchantresses. Odysseus is a hero in the way that he uses his brain to think about and approach dilemmas. When he and his men are on the Cyclops’ island, Odysseus tells the cyclops that his name was Nobody.
Dogs are known for being a man’s best friend. When we think of dogs we often think of their loyalty and companionship. Many love dogs so it is not surprising that they are featured in books too. In the Odyssey by Homer there is a dog named Argos. Odysseus leaves when Argos is just a puppy but when he comes back the dog has clearly not been taken care of and dies as soon as it sees Odysseus.
The concept of hero has been interpreted in many ways throughout the ages. Hero have gone from knights slaying dragons and rescuing the princess, to heroes who save the world with their supernatural-like powers, to a modern day hero who is someone who has noble qualities and is regarded as a role model. In the epic, The Odyssey, by Robert Fagles, the heroic Odysseus is a well known in Greek mythology. However, although Odysseus is the most respected, honorable hero of Greek mythology he is not a modern hero. A modern day hero is someone who puts their life on the line to save the lives of other innocent people.
This character is brought to light using several incidents and events that help to analyze and interpret the ancient Greek world and the values surrounding them. Each episode supports and allows for the development of Odysseus’ character and acknowledges the effects of these features. Through these specific incidents, the reader uncovers the quality of Odysseus and how his characteristics relate to those praised by Greeks and those that were criticized. Persistent components of Odysseus’ character include cleverness and pride, while major themes that are reiterated are Greek ideals and the struggle to reach home. Odysseus has grown from the man he was before, as now he finds comfort and safety in obeying the gods when in the past he did not consider their wishes. Odysseus has only returned due to Athena and he has recognized that and his compliance is founded in his appreciation and respect for her. Odysseus is now a hero due to the obedience he now has to the gods, founded in a sense of humility. Through Odysseus’ experiences on his journey, he learns the value of obedience and dangers of arrogance and ultimately, become a hero through the lessons learned.
