Odysseus and the Journey
In a very dark cave with only sheep and cheese lived the big bad one-eyed… CYCLOPS! In the epic poem, The Odyssey by Homer, the main character Odysseus live in Ithaca but, he has to leave for battle. On his way home he runs into a one eyed monster the Cyclops. He became trapped and needs a way home. Once he finds Ithaca he comes back disguised so no one knows who he really is. Odysseus expresses bravery and cleverness throughout The Odyssey.
Odysseus is brave. For example, when Odysseus first meets the cyclops he asks for hospitality and in book nine this is what happened “My heart beat high now at the chance of action, and drawing the sharp sword from my hip I went along his flank to stab him where the midriff holds the liver. This shows that Odysseus is also brave for asking a crazy cyclops for hospitality, I know if I did …show more content…

For example, when odysseus is with the cyclops, the cyclops asks for his name and he tells him that his name is “Nohbody”. So when “Nohbody” stabs him in the eye the cyclops says ‘Nohbody, Nohbody’s tricked me Nohbody’s ruined me!’ (9. 320). This shows that Odysseus is very clever because instead of him getting blamed “Nohbody” gets blamed! Also, it shows that his ability to think on the fly and cleverness because now Poseidon has no idea what odysseus did to his son. In addition, when Odysseus comes back to Ithaca Athena disguised him as a beggar and Antinous says to him “A poor show, that-hitting this famished tramp-bad business, if he happened to be a god.” (18.51-52) This shows that Athena made Odysseus take a step back and look at the situation instead of killing the suitors. This also shows that Odysseus has to be clever in a way where no one figures out it’s him. So he let Athena guide him to stay undercover and figure out what’s been going on since he's been gone for twenty years. Odysseus has many clever moments in the poem the Odyssey and the two examples I found myself thinking
