Odysseus Journey Analysis

Whether a war hero or not, your life's an adventure, with many obstacles to overcome and rewards to gain. In the epic poem about the life of Odysseus, by Homer, it talks about this huge journey that Odysseus has taken and the many trials he faced throughout this adventure. Odysseus has suffered many challenges along the way but has overcome them, and it was his determination to return home to be with his wife and son that helped him.This poem shows that people face hard challenges in their own way and though it’s difficult, the reward in the end pays off. I wouldn’t say my life has been as challenging and harsh as his, however I have faced many obstacles and have more to come to reach to where I want to be. So his journey is similar to mine in a variety of ways.

These temptations of course made it harder for him to continue his journey and finish what he needed to do. Just like Odysseus, as a teenager we face a lot of temptations, I know that my biggest temptation is video games. The first women Odysseus had to encounter to help him return home was Circe the “Terrible goddess with lovely hair, who spoke in the language of men” (115), made him sleep with her and him being tempted did so. After they slept together he thought he had only been there 5 days when really he had just wasted 5 years of his life, which is exactly what happens to me when I play videogames, when I should be finishing school work. I think i’ve only been playing for 30 minutes, when really it’s been 3 hours and this has always been such an obstacle for me to overcome every since elementary up until now especially, but I have been working on it just like Odysseus does after realizing he needs to cut it out with the games and return
