Character Analysis Essay: Odysseus What does it mean to have very different characteristics? What causes these different traits to be seen? These questions are what bring together what a person even is. In the epic poem, The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus shows his talent for killing many people and still staying strong while on his journey for 10 whole years. Odysseus being the king of Ithaca is sent off to Troy to kill everyone there. After his success he adventure truly starts, he goes to multiple Islands Including the cyclops home, Circe's palace and literally going to the kingdom of the dead (hell). To illustrate, Odysseus kills all of the suitors leaving none alive. This shows that Odysseus goes on a killing spree, killing everyone knowing that they all want to marry the queen of ithaca. His anger leads to his decision to kill all of them. It also shows that he does not change his opinion on killing everyone, because he chooses not to think of any other solutions. Moreover, Odysseus’s disguise is gone once he beats the competition. Then all of the suitors are angry that he is alive and try to kill him. Once most of them are dead some of them beg for mercy then Odysseus states, “‘No, Eurymachus! Not if you paid me all your father's wealth--/all you possess now, and all that could pour in from the world's end--no, not even then would I stay my hands from slaughter/till all you suitors had paid for your all your crimes!’” This shows that Odysseus kills them even though they were willing to pay. It also shows Odysseus does not care about how the men have people to take care of or how some have great stuff to give, He still kills ALL of them. In conclusion, Odysseus is stubborn on his decisions because he kills everyone even though they paid or gave up things just to live making it true that he has very stubborn
