Throughout Odysseus's twenty year journey he experiencing many things which were exciting, scary, or even dangerous. But, whatever the situation was he was able to always be the leader and enable him and his crew to dodge any obstacle that came their way. But Odysseus is human and is not perfect so he has challenges and disagreements but it is how he overcomes them which makes him such a great leader. This is why I choose Odysseus as my subject because I see myself as a leader such as him that sets the best example for the people that are looking to follow. Also making the decisions are best for the group and not yourself. For my mandala, I illustrate in six key episodes the power and strength Odysseus upholds, his leadership problem solving skills, and imperfect decisions.
I choose to draw bows and arrows for my first symbol of Odysseus's journey because the whole epic poem was leading up to the moment where Odysseus gained his revenge against the suitors. This episode is significant to my mandala because this is where Odysseus shows his full power and strength by whipping out every last suitor, he even hung the maids who were loyal to the suitors. I choose to illustrate Odysseus’s bow because it was the weapon he used to take down all the suitors. I drew the pigs with a pink shade because they were pigs but also men so they did not appear hot pink. I also drew brown feet to represent that they were still men so they still had their shoes on. The significance was that Circe was not very welcoming at first by turning them into pigs, but then Odysseus worked his magic and she ended up letting them stay awhile.
