Odysseus is the king of Ithaca and is married to Penelope. He knows Helen from childhood. In “Black Ships Before Troy,” Odysseus shows many traits of a hero. Two of them are clever and honorable, and these traits make the hero of “Black Ships Before Troy.” Odysseus is clever because he comes up with elaborate plans.
Odysseus is a man, who has been working on going home for twenty years. He is a leader of his men, and will never give up until he gets to his goal or going home to his family. He is faithful to all his men, and he never deceived them. The faithful Odysseus is very hard working trying to help his men get home.
Ever since childhood, people develop an image on what a true hero should be like. A considerable hero is someone who looks after their allies and makes rational decisions in tough situations. On the contrary, in the book, The Odyssey, Odysseus shows that not all heroes make the most reasonable choices. For instance, he is willing to sacrifice his own shipments in order to get back to Ithaca. Yes, it may be one of the best options considering the position they are in, but he was the reason why the crew is in that position in the first place.
In part one of Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus uses his epic hero qualities to help him out on his quest to get back home to Ithaca. He’s shows superb intelligence when fighting the cyclopes in “Book 9.” That’s a quality of superhuman intelligence that Odysseus possessed all throughout his entire journey. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is not an exemplary leader because he went against utilitarianism by not being honest with his men, letting his arrogance control his behavior, and by killing many people in his house without a fair trial. Firstly, a leader must be truthful with those he works with in order for no errors or confusion to occur as a result of information being hidden. In The Odyssey, not being truthful lead to negative consequences for everyone on Odysseus’ ship, and thus contradicted the principle of utilitarianism stating that actions must lead to positive effects.
Odysseus was the Greek king of Ithaca and the hero in “The Odyssey”. His queen was Penelope and had a son named Telemachus. He was away from home for a total of twenty years. Ten years were spent fighting in the Trojan War, and ten more on his journey back home. Along the way he faced numerous challenges and difficulties, but in the end made it back home.
After weeks of sieges and losing morale, him being the smartest strategist of the troops has a way to win the city. He does this by tricking the trojans into believing they had given up and left them a gift. The gift was a giant wooden horse but little do they know inside the horse were the greatest fighters the army had. When night fell they got out of the horse and killed the trojans and let in the army as they slept, winning the war. This was the very first act of intelligence and cleverness from Odysseus.
In this case, Odysseus distinguishes himself as the widely celebrated Trojan War hero, instead of the old beggar he appears to be, by virtue of his great strength and skill, showing the importance of that trait to the storyline and the Greek people of that time. Odysseus, the hero of The Odyssey, first shows the trait loyalty on the Land of the Lotus Eaters. Odysseus sends three of his best men to check out this island, but bad luck has them and they run into Lotus Eaters who are addicted to the Lotus Plant.
