1. Basics: a. John Steinbeck b. Of Mice and Men c. Novella (fiction) 2. Narrative: a. It all takes plays in the 30s. Lennie and George are searching for a new job in Soledad, California on a farm. The setting is typical for the story because Soledad is a countryside with a lot of poor farmers all searching for a new job. This makes the story even bleaker. There are four specific locations ; a wooded area, bunkhouse, stable and the main barn on the ranch. b. Lennie He is one of the main characters. Both main characters are introduced like a sort of animals. Lennie is like a bear. In the story there is nothing specific told about Lennie but you can conclude he got a mental disability ; he always tells the same, he is obsessed with rabbits, childish and every night he wants an bed time story. He also can’t control his emotions and strength; he broke Slims hand, killed a puppy and also broke Curley’s wife’s neck. He is like a rodent. He is a smart, moral man who had to take care of Lennie (we don’t know why). He always talks about how much better life is without taking care of Lennie. He is motivated to protect Lennie because of their dream farm. George often tells Lennie things he doesn’t mean rude. George is definitely a round character because he is changed in the story and before. During his conversations with Slim he told him that he abused Lennie for his own amusement. But he changed and thinks nobody can take advantage of the weak. Also in the end he had to take a life changing decision. Shoot Lennie or let him be tortured by Curley’s lynch group.
