Loneliness is an emotion associated with depression felt by someone when they have no friends or have no one to talk to. It could cause one’s different behavior. In the novella, the author, John Steinbeck portray early people's life during 1930s. People suffering because of the loneliness for many different type of reasons. The novella describes of the strong friendship between a man, George and his best friend who has mental defects, Lennie, and how they go through tough times with each other. They stay together moving from ranch to ranch. The new ranch they migrated to in California seems to be a good place to settle down and make a living. His body is bent over by his crooked spine which cause by the kick from a horse. On account of these, he was separated from the bunkhouse, he “...had his bunk in the harness room” (67) and isn’t allowed to associate with white ranch workers anymore. As time goes by, his loneliness and isolation gives him a type of psychological separation from the others. It had been shown through the unfriendly attitude towards Lennie when Lennie goes into his room because he feels alone and sees his room with lights on. Add Intro “Crooks said sharply, ‘You got no right to come in my room. This here’s my room. Nobody got any right in here but me... Well, I got a right to have a light. You go on get outta my room. I ain’t wanted in the bunk house, and you ain’t wanted in my room’ (68). Crook’s action demonstrate that loneliness had made him become bitter person. He doesn’t want Lennie to be in his room not merely because he has hostile to people it can also seem as retaliation to them for not allowing him to enter bunkhouse by discrimination and make him feeling the pain of loneliness. Crooks said ‘Guys don’t come into a colored man’s room very much’ (75). Of the discrimination Crooks have no friends, he didn’t continue to force Lennie out because he notice that Lennie doesn’t understand anything and also because he haven’t get a chance to talk to someone in a long time. ‘This is just a nigger …show more content…

When this happens people are all involved a lonely life. The painful of the loneliness can force people are passive to find companionship. Estimating all the information found in the novella had sends out the isolation cause of loneliness. It could cause people in physical or mentally by acting unusual behavior. In reality, people are trying to get along with others to avoid being solitary because as a human being needs someone who loves and cares about them.
