The Analysis of the Stranger, John Wilson in The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson Heroes in literary works were once referred to as the "rebel"; however, the rebel has been replaced by the "stranger" in recent literature. In Lois Simmie's The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson, the novel centers on the title character who is alienated, disaffected and an outsider. The author’s depiction of the central character of Wilson as a stranger engages the reader in a different way, by having the reader want to know more about this mysterious and striking figure.
Christopher McCandless was a young man from good and sophisticated family. When he was a kid McCandless was very intelligent, he was placed in courses of very high level of education. He graduated from Emory University with honors. He received an amount of forty thousand dollars as a gift for college. In 1990, he was twenty two year old, he decided not to continue with his normal life, he wasted his money by giving it away.
One may say that McCandless’ violent childhood is what caused his downfall. McCandless may have even had the right idea, separating himself from his family, but due to his fragile state of mind he may have gone to too much of an extreme. He ended up taking the policies and principles of transcendentalism too far, which is really what resulted in his death. A concept that transcendentalism goes strongly against is materialism, a principle that may have saved his life. He was so anti materialistic in fact, that he refused to even have a phone or form of communication, this ultimately could have saved his life.
Once Christopher McCandless stepped foot in the wild, he never knew what was coming for him. Straight out of college, McCandless knew exactly what he wanted to do: he wanted to travel the country and see where his adventure would take him. Along the way, on his journey, Chris made some good friends, gaining a few jobs and encountered a little trouble from mother nature. From almost dying of dehydration in the Mojave desert, to practically being swept away in the teklanika river while trying to get back to civilization. Some of McCandless’ decisions were not quite wise on his part; going into the wild being unprepared.

From getting his own car, graduating from college, friends who loved him and parents that paid for everything, yet he still was not satisfied with his lifestyle. Mccandless decided to throw his whole life away and start brand new.
The Dark Sky With the winter storm being blown and the eerie darkness of the night, this was no fairytale of the cowboy riding through a sunny open range. The author’s purpose in Blood Meridian was to inform and describe the harsh reality of the hardships cowboys faced in their everyday lifestyle. Cormac Mccarthy makes it realistic to clear up the misconceptions that are usually connected to the glorious life of a cowboy. When most people think of a cowboy, they think of them as the brave hero of the town, but Mccarthy turns it all around by shining a light on the brutal truth. He says, “They cut the throats of the pack animals and jerked and divided the meat.”
Death will always complement war. This is seen clearly in Tim O’Brien’s short story “The Man I Killed”. In this tale the Main character, Tim, is vividly describing in his mind the enemy Vietcong solider he just killed life story before his death. He details everything, from the visible wounds on the soldier’s body to a fantasy of the man’s life. Meanwhile, to soldiers in Tim’s platoon acknowledge that he killed this man and try to speak to him about it.

Christopher McCandless’ 113 day odyssey, which was cut short by a fatal mistake. McCandless’ journey took place in 1992, and his body was discovered after spending approximately four months in the bush. Christopher Mccandless’ journey or even life was full of chance and bad luck, but unfortunately during his odyssey his bad luck outweighed his luck.
In The Fire Next Time, James Baldwin wants to find out if shaping or defending our identity is more real to us than achieving our humanity. He wants to know because all his life he has been troubled by religion and movements that made him question something. That something was, is it important to shape an identity and defend it or to achieve humanity? Baldwin went around about his life and each time he'd pick up a few things here and there that told him a little bit more. A little bit more for his question he's so wrapped up in whether he knew it or not.
Literary Analysis: Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler Throughout the Parable of the Sower, we follow Lauren Olamina; a young, strong-willed, black women living amongst others within her gated community, Robledo. The story begins in post-apocalyptic year 2024, hearing firsthand experiences of the times, on account of Lauren’s journal entries. These entries allow us to further analyze how these experiences shaped both Lauren; before and after the raid, and the community she builds moving North. In this analysis, I will be looking at key events within the story that provide detail on the theme of inclusion and exclusion and how this inevitably coincides with the theme community and the importance of it throughout the story.
In the book Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Lauren’s views on the world change throughout the book. When she goes from a safer life than others to living on the streets with no knowledge of what to do, she must reevaluate her beliefs. In the beginning of the book, she is very morally right, but towards the end she does what she must do to survive. As she lived more on the street, her views became more flexible, and she gained a deeper understanding of life on the street. Her views are also heavily influenced by outside forces that she grew up with.
No Name in the Street is an autobiographical account of James Baldwin’s experiences as a civil rights activist, containing every detail of his journey he wanted to include. He was a part of several monumental events during the civil rights era, including the March on Washington, Malcolm X’s autobiography screenplay, and many others. The writers at Wikipedia describe that “In vivid detail, Baldwin also recounts the Harlem childhood that shaped his early consciousness, the later painful historic events—the murders of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X along with his stay in Europe and in Hollywood and his return to the American South to confront a violent America” (“No Name in the Street”). Stephen King’s “The Running Man” is a very tough book to summarise. There are many things that happen throughout it, but due to the nature of the situation, in the end everything around Ben Richards gets destroyed, causing many things that may seem to be key events to have very little impact on the ending of the story. The basic story, removing all of these elements, is that a man named Ben Richards is living an impoverished life in some random town in the U.S., and signs up for a death game called The Running Man to make a whole bunch of money so he can get his daughter’s pneumonia treated. The whole idea of The Running Man is that a man goes on the run for 30 days from the authorities and a group of people called the hunters who are chasing
James Baldwin understood the immense effects of racial injustice and racism, and by writing The Fire Next Time Baldwin withstands these constant problems that oppress African Americans and leads others to stand against racism as well. Baldiwn strengthens his argument by using first person point of view to show his perspective on the injustice African Americans face, he also appeals to ethos by using empathy to have an emotional reaction from his audience; white people. As well as kairos to show urgency on creating racial equality in the nation. Baldwin begins the book with a letter to his nephew and gives him advice on how to handle America because African American people have continuously had to handle resentment and violence from white
