Although the setting is unique she still manages to be authentic to New Orleans. An excellent example of this is the Mercedes Superdome; In Orleans it is explained that during the hurricanes people started piling bodies inside the dome to keep the smell of rot at a minimum and once the bodies reached the roof it got sealed. Several years later, Daniel decides to investigate the Superdome because he’s curious about how it looks. “The Dome loomed above him like a poached egg in a cup. The top was shattered, tapped by a giant spoon […] the dome was as wide as a city block and while the sidewalks had once been broad to accommodate the crowds of concertgoers and sports fans, they were now broken and shadowed, treacherous to cross” (Smith, 2013, P.108)

Although Hurricane Katrina wasn’t expected to ever hit land, it is one of the biggest storms to hit the United States. The storm devastated the city and the country more than anyone would have every thought. Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers, displays many of the disastrous events that take place during and after Hurricane Katrina. The book follows Zeitoun and his wife Kathy, a Muslim couple, with four kids and their own painting business, through the storm. After the storm, while Kathy and the kids are staying with friends and family, Zeitoun rides around in his canoe rescuing survivors and watching his properties which has a phone he uses to keep in touch with Kathy.
In the book A.D New Orleans After The Deluge, By Josh Neufeld is about Hurricane Katrina and how it affected the people of New Orleans. This book was about real people that escaped and lived through the storm. Most people lost everything including their houses, all personal belongings, and jobs. As I was reading the book was shocked that in the beginning most of the characters were not worried about the storm they just wanted to wait it out. No one was expecting such a big storm and thought it would turn east like they normally did.
In her book, Building the Devil’s Empire, Shannon Dawdy reflects on the development of New Orleans from 1718 until 1768 during the revolt against Spanish rule. She depicts imagery describing to the reader what it was like in New Orleans and even paints a picture of what it was through others point of views. Throughout the book, Dawdy explains what a rouge colony is through historical people. Their ideas and experiences serve to back up the concept of Louisiana the “rouge colony.” The examples from the people show the nature of a rouge colony and the development of not only New Orleans but also Louisiana.
Cultural diffusion can be defined as a process by which one culture barrows or adopts material culture or ideas from another culture. This process occurs when one culture comes into some form of contact with another culture. The ideas or material culture that is borrowed is usually more advanced than what the other culture holds, which in turn makes it more appealing to the other culture. Cultural diffusion is not only limited to remote areas or islands but also has spread to Western cultures such as the U.S. An example of cultural diffusion is beignets in New Orleans which originated from the French.
Ghosts, in the monograph written by David Jones, are described by Sanapia, the Comanche medicine woman, as beings that “get jealous because [humans] are living and [they have] died” (Jones 66). The Comanche cultural connotation of ghosts is one that characterizes ghosts as either mischievous, or pernicious entities. Therefore, ghost sickness, as described by Jones, occurs when a ghost(s) comes into contact with a human being(s) and because of its malevolent/ jealous nature uses its supernatural ability to “[cause] contortions of the facial muscles and in some instances [paralyze the] hands and arms” (Jones 66). In essence, the ghost(s) harm the human being(s), and ghost sickness is the physical manifestation in the human being of that ghost-to-human interaction. It would be more accurate to say, that ghost sickness manifests itself in the human being after the human being has come into contact with the ghost and has failed to exert courage, or to, as detailed by Sanapia, “turn around and… show it [that they weren’t] afraid of it” (Jones 67).
Journal 4 Poetry are rhythmic words that possess the power to sing like music. Ron Wallace’s poem “Hardware” is a beautiful example on how a poem can sing and dance. Ron uses techniques like plosives, fricatives, and liquids to control the pacing of the stanzas in the poem. He is deliberate with the movements. A great moment in “Hardware is on stanzas 4-6 which says, “set screw and rasp, ratchet wrench, band saw, and ball pen hammer.”
They can appear as apparitions, speak, and in some cases, even influence the world around them. Ie, moving small rocks, or tugging at a cat's fur. This all depends on how strong the character really is, weaker characters who are shy, might not be able to influence the world around them, or speak in a way that the living can hear them. This also means that a ghost can hurt the living, such as dislodging larger cliff rocks, however they cannot physically hurt a living cat as the ghost's body is, well, not
New Orleans was founded on geologically young river deposits near the terminus of the North American continent’s largest delta. It is surrounded by water bodies on the three sides, with the highest point located about 25 feet above sea level. The Mississippi River is largely contributes to the most of the New Orleans’ landform. The rich soil which New Orleans is built on is made up of silt which is constantly covered with water every time the river floods or storm comes in from the water. This creates unique wetland landscape of swamps, salt-water marshes and bayous.
There are lots of things that is wrong with the city of New Orleans needs to improvements for a safe place to live. Louisiana are so far behind the times when it comes to technology, educations, housing, affordable healthcare, retirement programs for senior citizens, job opportunities and crime rates. If New Orleans was the safest place to live, then there would be no improvements for people to stay. New Orleans would have been the cleanest and safest place for people to live, if people choose to stay or move to another state for better opportunity. The city of New Orleans need to make changes in the direction of where the city’s stands.
Over the past century or so, twenty-two of the fifty states have lost an average of fifty percent of their wetlands, however, Louisiana’s total loss is over ninety percent of the nation’s total. What is somewhat different about Louisiana’s land loss is that it is natural. The land it was built on is naturally inclined to sink over the years. The real problem with this in the last century, is that land is now being lost far faster than it can be replaced. This loss ranges from 0.1 to 11.1 square miles, depending on the place.
Are Ghost real? Most people believe that after someone dies their spirits are still around but some call it ghost. There can be many reasons why a spirit still stays in earth after that person dies there has been discoveries that spirits stay because they didn’t complete what that person wanted to do before he or she died. Some believe that as the law says "energy is neither created nor destroyed", and based on that physical principle we question to ourselves: where does our energy go to after life?.
