Old Major’s speech in the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, and Dr.Martin Luther King Jr’s “I have a Dream” speech were written by different people, for different reasons, at different times and places. Old Major talks about his vision for the future of Manor Farm where animals end the suffering caused by man while King talks about his vision for the future of America where racial injustice is nonexistent. After all of these differences the two speeches are still very similar. Both speeches talked about an injustice that they felt needed to end. Old Major talked about how the humans made the animals work and then took everything that they worked for and barely fed them.

In chapter 1 it starts off with Old Major, a prize Middle White boar, having a strange dream and wanting to share it with the other animals on the farm. Later in the night when Mr. Jones was fast asleep all of the animals on the farm went to meet in the Big Barn to hear of the dream that Old Major had. In George Orwell’s novella, Animal Farm, Napoleon rises to lead the entire farm; using his own methods of propaganda and administration over the animals. Like Hitler, he uses his leading position to scare his followers into fidelity.
Both the animals and the humans grew tired of their rulers because of how they got treated. Old major is Lenin, the leader of the Bolshevik party. Old major is like Lenin because he was the leader of the animals in Animal Farm. He believes in animalism and Lenin believes in communism. Animalism is a concept Napoleon and Snowball made based on Old Major 's wishes after he died.
He provided the ideas of Animalism, which is very similar to communism. He outlined the ideas and then further urged his followers to unite and revolt against their oppressors. Old major dreamt of a world where animals were all united and equals and man no longer roamed England. This was similar to Marx’s idea of everyone being equal with no economic oppressors. “There can be no tyrants where there are no slaves.”-Jose Rizal. “Animal Farm,” written by George Orwell depicts a world of talking animals and vicious dictators, but looking further into the meaning of the book you can see that Orwell’s observation and opinion that revolutions often fail in that they end up only in a change of tyrants is very true. Usually people who lead rebellions or people who are at least a part of them are in it for themselves. They do not see it for the good of the common man, but they see a way they can change control into their own hands.
Karl Marx, the founder of communism, wrote,“[F]rom each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” This quote sums up his vision for the ideal political structure; however, it fails to take into account simple human nature. The dichotomy between people’s aspirations and actions are achieved through animal depictions in the novella Animal Farm. Orwell's story shows the communist movement with the personification of animals working toward freedom from human control. Also, Orwell conveys some of Marx’s concepts from this period of time through the use of conflict and irony.

An allegorical tale, Animal Farm tells a literal story - of the animals on the farm - that is intended to be representative of another situation - Stalin 's rise in the Soviet Union. Animal Farm opens on Manor Farm, where animals are subservient to their human master, a farmer named Jones. One night an aged boar called Old Manor calls a meeting of his fellow animals, and puts forth the call that they should one day rise up in rebellion against the humans who enslave them. Old Manor suggests that once humans have been overthrown, no animal should act like a human by sleeping in a bed, wearing clothes, drinking alcohol, or engaging in trade.
