Throughout the short story, “On the Bridge,” the protagonist, Seth Dawson, changes from following in the footsteps of the antagonist, Adam to looking down on him. This is a direct result of Adam’s cowardly behavior. In the beginning of the short story, Seth and Adam are on a bridge above a highway, looking down at the passing cars.
