Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you were an only child, or if you currently are an only child, have you ever thought how weird it would feel to be told you are not allowed to have any siblings? For many years China faced extreme over population issues, so in 1979 China began to implement a new set of rules called the One-Child Policy. This policy restricted families from having more than one child, the policy was enforced to try and lower the growth in population of the country. But was it really a wise choice for China to limit families to only have one child? I believe that the one child policy is a good idea for China's economy and quality of life. The implementation of the One-Child Policy significantly boosted China's economy. The policy was a huge part of China's demographic transition, and according to Document E this transition lead to "up to one quarter of its per capita GDP growth in the last three decades." This rapid GDP growth has allowed China to improve in many ways, Document E states that "With the rapid GDP growth has come better nutrition, rising levels of education, longer life expectancies, and higher living standards." …show more content…
Single daughters known as urban singleton daughters have reeked many benefits from the policy. According to document D, "single daughters in China's cities have enjoyed privileged childhoods little different from their male counterparts." If the one child policy did not exist, daughters would have to compete for many things like attention and opportunities from people around them and even their own families. Many of these singleton daughters are presented with many opportunities they would not see if it were not for the One-Child Policy, and they are supported by many people who want them to
