A new born baby in a family brings so much joy and love, nevertheless in China there is a limit to childbirth which only allows one child in a family. The one child policy was started on the year of 1979, which was first promoted in China. The reason one child policy was proposed was because the population in China was uncontrolled, overgrown, creating it hard for the Chinese to improve. However, the one child policy caused many problems such as the rise in elderly population, gender imbalance and death of innocent children.

Despite the fact that the parents couldn’t get what they wanted, they would try to make their wish happen, however, not all of the methods of getting a dream child are the best. The one child policy limited their hopes and worsened the abortion rate that was already there. In China people strongly prefered male babies than females for people believe men could bring wealth into the family and could work in the fields to provide food. Instead, females were portrayed as weak and feeble, could not toil for a long period of time. Females were also hated because after they were married they will be given to the husband's family which makes the females parents feel that they just raised a daughter for the husband's family. The stereotypes in the society caused many death of baby girls, according to a researcher, 5 per cent infanticide are girls and 2.5 per cent are boys. Sex bias infanticide killed countless female babies which caused gender imbalance. In China, there are 30 million more men than women under the age of 20 and the ratio of 118 to 110 male and female. With the extreme gap between the population of men and women, finding a suitable spouse for men is a tremendously difficult. Therefore the family trees are empty and barren and could not continue their next generation.
