One of the most dangerous threats to become known in the 1970s and 1980s was airline terrorism. On July 3rd, 1976, Palestinians hijacked the Air France 139 while threatening to kill hostages on board. The creation of Operation Entebbe was created by the Israel Defense Force to get the hostages to safety. On June 17, 1976, Operation Entebbe began at the Entebbe Airport in Uganda. Air France Flight 139, leaving Athens headed for Paris was a full flight with 238 people and 12 crew members (“Terror on the Airlines (1976 and 1988)”). After the 12:30 pm take off, two germans and two Palestinian members of the PFLP hijacked the plane. They then preceded to redirected the flight to Benghazi, Libya. If someone was not jewish the hijackers allowed them to continue on and depart for their destination. Even though many people refused to leave not trusting the terrorist or leaving others, but they were forced to divide, leaving 83 hostages in Entebbe. July 3rd was when the Israeli government had decided to plan a rescue mission for the forced hostages. By midnight the following day, Israeli forces were in the terminal and shot the four hijackers. The hostages were now free to board the plane, but when doing so, Ugandan soldiers started to shoot (“Terror on the Airlines (1976 and 1988)”). This fire is all the acculations and fighting going on throughout the world. It also shows that even though we didn’t start the fire we did try to fight it. The “Terror on the Airline” reference, is used from 1964 to 1989 because there has been multiple airline attacks. I picked the two most popular stories at this time to describe the fire brewing between countries. In 1976 and 1988, one very horrific and the other extremely deadly took place which has helped round out the flaws of our airline systems in the world
