Operation Overlord, more commonly known as D-Day, is often regarded as a key moment in World War II. This essay will explore to what extent Operation Overlord was a “turning point” in the War in Europe. Operation Overlord was the largest amphibious assault in history, taking place on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. D-Day established a beachhead in France, which enabled the Allied forces to launch a massive campaign against Nazi occupied areas. Operation Overlord also forced the German military to relocate resources to defend the Allied invasion, weakening their Eastern and Western Fronts. In addition to the massive morale boost the invasion gave, it also strengthened Allied unity and cooperation. D-Day marked an important turning point
