Religion has been central to all types of people all around the world for thousands of years. Different regions developed differing views on religion and higher powers. With this, has come a lot of tension between different groups as they fight for power over more people. Therefore I agree with the statement, “Religions have promoted violence more than they have prevented it.” In this essay, I will discuss a variety of religions including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism. For example, in India there is a minority of Hindus that want every Indian to follow Hinduism for they believe that other religions, mainly Christianity and Islam, are a threat to Indian culture. As a result, they have been violent toward people who aren’t Hindu, going as far as to kill Christian missionaries and burn down Mosques. In 2014, a Hindu nationalist became the prime minister of India. With this, there was a dramatic increase in radical Hindus terrorizing religious groups that aren’t Hindu. Reports show that Muslims have been forced to convert to Hinduism and textbooks have allegedly been altered to help convert children to the Hindu faith.
