“Don’t worry about being successful but work toward being significant and the success will naturally follow” (Winfrey). Baltimore launched Oprah into the stratosphere she’s in today. She became a co-anchor and co-host on different Baltimore shows, and began to create a name for herself. Even though, creating a name and image for herself wasn’t easy, she still worked through the tough times. Oprah has had times that she just wanted to quit, but her colleagues pushed her to finally reach her goals. Before Oprah Winfrey was known for being a well known television host, actress, producer, publisher and entrepreneur, she went through multiple obstacles to get to where she is today.

Jane Marion explains that, “At the time, the news was anchored by Jerry Turner, arguably the most beloved broadcaster in Baltimore. But the one-hour format was deemed too long for a single person to handle, so then-news director Gary Elion conducted an exhaustive nationwide search for a co-anchor.” After watching multiple tapes, Elion found an audition tape that caught his eye.
