Orchestra 2 was a UNLV production that mixed together three dances, each incorporating a unique dance style and music selection. The stage was well lit with different colors for different times during the performance. The music was played at a reasonable volume, the music was loud enough to be heard, but did not take away anything from the dancing itself. The background and setting was only alright. I did not quite understand the wood displays in the background, they did not seem to represent anything to me. The costumes were appropriate for each dance. An example of the costume and dance connection was when in the second dance, the dance was about water and rivers and the costumes were blue. The use of props in the dances were very well done as well. Props like blocks, or puppets were used to bring more into each dance. I felt that the use of puppets in the final dance was very effective. Overall, the dancing was what the show memorable. This dance act was the longest, but very entertaining. The dance involved various mini puppets, and then life size dancers that resembled the puppets. I thought that the dance was almost like a movie, because I was trying to understand the story behind the dance. The costumes of the dancers to me resembled different races or kinds of people. Although the movement in “Petrushka” wasn’t as rapid or swift compared to “Gymnopedies,” still the dancers were still able to keep my eyes glued to the stage, and my mouth smiling at the puppets.
