Orozco's Orientation

It seems as though the author of "Orientation" is trying to emphasize the way corporate environments force people to conform. The author introduces various characters that work in the office and highlights their personal secrets and stories to emphasize the conformity that is common in corporate environments. Toward the end of the short story, the first person says, “There. See That’s you, waving. And look there. There’s Anika Bloom in the kitchenette, waving back” ( Orozco 50). Earlier in the story, Anika Bloom is described as someone who should be avoided. The first person states, “So unless you want to know exactly when you will die, never talk to Anika Bloom” ( Orozco 47). In my opinion, this quote about Anika Bloom waving back is metaphorical.
