Although it is believed that social media can help provide some reliable information, in her article, “Our Lost Generation and the Reign of Social Media”, Jane Kim shows how social media does not give you reliable information and make you a better person, but it is just a computerized trap to make you glued. She uses anecdotal evidence to convey a scene to the reader and uses simple diction to get her message conveyed to the reader in a clear-cut way, all of this is done by connecting emotionally with the reader. This is conveyed in a very harsh tone, so the readers realize emotionally the impact that social media will have on themselves and how it causes their mental health to decline due to the misinformation and addictive behavior that TikTok uses. Jane Kein talks about the many different social media platforms and all the allegations that they have to face because of the damage they are creating to people because of the misinformation that they are spreading. She employs the anecdote about how “ Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook was pressured by senators to apologize to the parents of children who died following sexual harassment or exploitation on social media. There is a dire condition on the internet that must be more thoroughly diagnosed and treated”.In this anecdote, Jane Kim goes into very much detail and paints a very gruel scene which causes her to connect to her audience on an emotional level with her audience. Seeing the atrocities that are happening to people because of the misinformation that social media spreads, the readers start to realize the importance of the information and caution that Jane Kim said throughout the article. They get very emotionally connected and decide that they don’t want the same thing that has happened in the anecdote to happen to them. All of this makes them realize the importance of the information that she is conveying to the reader. This anecdote is told in a harsh tone towards social media, which teaches her audience the importance of social media by the atrocities that people have to face which connects to her audience's emotions.
