Living Life Blind After watching the magnificent performance of Masterpiece Classic: Our Town, I was very impressed with how the play used realism such as sound effects and made me feel like all of the actions were happening when they were not actually doing them. Thornton Wilder did an amazing job writing this play and the cast had an ideal performance of it. Through the entire play, from the beginning to the death of Emily, played by Maggie Lacey, it seemed to be a basic play about two normal families whose children grow up to marry each other. Then all of a sudden you realize after the death of Emily that all of it had happened so fast. When Emily returns, she asks, “Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Sadly, deep down she knows the answer is no and she is saddened by the ignorance and blindness she had while living, as well as the lack of knowledge humans still have throughout life. Maggie Lacey does a marvelous job as Emily as she goes through dying and going back just to see that it is not how she thinks it will be. Thornton Wilder’s creativity and originality when creating this play shines through an amazing performance by a wonderful cast of actors and actresses in this play of “Our Town”. From the outgoing and optimistic Maggie Lacey as Emily to Stephen Spinella the drunk organist Simon Stimson at the church all of the actors portrayed their characters wonderfully. Even the chemistry between the families was very realistic. This being my first time seeing this play I was taken back by the pure theme behind the play, and how you do not realize it until it is almost over, just as in real life. As a young man it really makes me think about the life ahead of me and how I need to enjoy it while I can. “Our Town” definitely gets its theme across to the viewer especially
