The book unbroken is about a man named louie zamperini. It talks about the horrors he faced during and after the war such as ptsd, torture, starvation and meny more. In this essay i will talk about the 3 most important traits that led to him forgive his former captors. As well as the one who tortured him the most during his time being a POW and and in his nightmares. The 3 most important traits that led him to forgive them were bravery, determination, and his motivation.
When people hear handicap they think not able to care for themselves. Nancy wants to be known as a tough individual able to take care of herself. The reader can feel the agony of what Nancy is feeling. The tone of this passage is determination and agony. Nancy feels that cripple is more stronger word than “handicap” or ‘disabled.”
“Single-Handed Cooking” by JJ Goode speaks about his disability and how although he acknowledges it as an obstacle it isn 't one they aren 't continuously ready to overcome. He uses the example of cooking. It 's a task that for most does not require the intense focus that he needs ,yet it doesn 't stop him from cooking dishes ranging in difficulty. With each dish he successfully creates its a way to prove himself, while the mistakes no matter the cause are a failure. Which is why he continues to tackle demanding recipes because each time he achieves a great end result its another accomplishment.
In “On Being a Cripple” by Nancy Mairs, she describes her eventful life as a cripple and her journey to adjusting to a new way of life. “I am not a disease” is something the author says to tell readers that disabled people should not be looked at any differently. It is very clear throughout this piece that Mairs wants the readers to be more informed about cripples and possibly understand what one is going through. Anyone that is a cripple would most likely enjoy this piece and be able to relate to her feelings and experiences. Nancy Mairs is successful in the purpose of her piece by using a sad but humorous tone.
Nancy Mairs, “On Being a Cripple” was an interesting article. The word choices she has used plays an important role in her article. Her article is very detailed oriented and used different examples to explain her situation about being a cripple. Mairs had no excuse about her situation even after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and she continues to be the best at her job of parenting and wife. She had really emphasized her struggles that she went through and how she had coped with the fact that her life will never be the same.

She feels as the cripple describes her the best, she doesn’t see herself as disabled or handicapped because she believe she is able to do things even though she have disease.

John Steinbeck's novel shows how disabled people are treated differently by writing about their heartbreak and sorrow.
