You may know Walt Disney as the billionaire who completely changed animated movies. He has produced so many classics and transformed so many kids’ lives. He built an amusement park for all ages. Yet Walt Disney, the founder of the billion-dollar company, was not always the rich and wealthy person you know him to be. Walt Disney faced many challenges and obstacles in society before he rose to the top and became the founder of Disney. Yet through all this, he persevered. Walt was able to overcome obstacles and challenges throughout his life in so many ways. He was able to overcome society, become an amazing entrepreneur, and grow to be the name of a huge filmmaking company. His father was rude to him and his siblings and did not treat them well. Some of his brothers ran away from home. In the K12 Learning Liftoff article, “Overcoming Obstacles: Hard Work and Persistence Paid Off For Walt Disney,” Ashley MacQuarrie describes how Walt Disney was able to overcome obstacles and challenges. She writes, “Elias hired other boys to help, paying them a few dollars a week, but refused to pay his son, insisting it was part of his job as a member of the family.” Walt worked every day, before and after school. Yet while his dad forced him to do this, he didn’t pay Walt anything in return. His brothers noticed this too, and along with other reasons, ran away. He writes, “Walt's brothers were so frustrated about their relationship with their dad that they all one by one ran away from home early in their lives. Walt Disney decided to experiment with more realistic animation, not the silly animation where characters would pull hammers out of their ears, or a steamboat’s pipes would bend and squeeze on their own. He based the film on an old, scary fairytale called Snow White. He called his new remake Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Its cost was way over what he expected and required a loan to finish production. When he produced the film, it made $8,000,000! That’s equivalent to about $134,033,000 today, which makes it even more spectacular.
