In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. Imagine you’re a 13-year old football player at practice. It’s almost time to go home, but it’s 9:59, and you’re really tired. And you’ve still got a truckload of homework to do and dinner to eat, and it’s a nightmare. How did this happen? The answer: teens like you that stayed up all night.

However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
Students and staff of Scape Goat Hill High speak out about the ongoing dress code violation epidemic that has been plaguing the learning environment of the school. According to on-site witnesses, the school’s hallways have become flooded by a constant flow of shamed students who have been evicted from their classrooms by staff members for violating the school’s strict dress code policy. If someone asked me if I wanted homework, I would give them a negative answer. Homework is something I’ve always never enjoyed doing. My reasons for not having homework are people have other activities, people are getting tired/stressed out, and people have family situations. Think about it, do we really need homework after all the time we spend at school.
Dress Codes: Fitting Into Strict Standards The ringing of the bell echoes through the hallway, as students step into their first period classes. Girls and boys enter, some wondering if their tank top straps are three fingers, or if the words on their shirt will get them into trouble. Education should be on the minds of these students, but instead, they are worried about the one thing that taunts children throughout a school day: The dress code.
Law enforcement presence in schools is a topic that has been spoken about by many researchers throughout the years and has brought up a lot of controversial thoughts and ideas. Many researchers that have conducted research that is related to this topic have mentioned how they came across studies that made them come up with conclusions about school law enforcement officers that were rather mixed than geared towards one side of the spectrum (Bracy, 2010). The studies that I looked into were very similar in that many of them looked down upon the idea of having law enforcement officers present in schools, while a small handful felt that it has more pros than it does cons. Throughout this essay I will be explaining how a behaviour policy supports teachers and how it can also create an effective learning environment. I will also be highlighting any issues which could potentially arise from the use of a behaviour policy. A behaviour policy is guidance for members of staff within a school on how to deal with different behaviours, and sets out the expectations of behaviour for all children at the school. If a behaviour policy is written well it will support the formation of an effective learning environment. An effective learning environment for young children is an environment in which all children feel able to express themselves freely, allowing them to learn effectively.
Furthermore, 100 community service hours should be a requirement for high school graduation. Since many teens already have a lot on their plates with homework and extracurricular activities they often put themselves first above helping others. Also, many teens spend their weekends locked up in their rooms or just watching tv all day, they could do something very productive with the time they are wasting. With this in mind, community service not only helps your community but it helps get students out of their houses.
Volunteering should be done intrinsically. Many students find community service so difficult, time consuming, and not enjoyable. Therefore, they tend to only complete the required hours without any essential effort. To call mandatory community service 'volunteering ' is a problem because then we begin to confuse the distinction between an activity that is willingly done and something that is obligatory and perhaps not always rewarding. Volunteering should be something you choose to do because you want to do it, not because somebody made you do it.
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
