One major event that happened in the Mine Wars was at Paint Creek. In 1912 and 1913, Paint Creek went on a strike. It was one of the bloodiest conflicts in the 20th century. The strike started on April 18, 1912. The strike started because one of the operators rejected the demand of their unionized workers for a wage increase. The strike was between the striking coal miners and the operators in Kanawha County, West Virginia. This Mine War lasted from April 18, 1912 all the way to June of 1913. Paint Creek Mine War was a very long strike and took a lot of people changing their minds for it to end. The paint creek strike was a devastation. The strike lasted for more than one year. It had a lot of bloodshed. The paint creek strike will never be forgotten. After the strike began, the national United Mine workers had full support. The first month of the strike had no violence at all. That did not last too long though. Mother Jones rallied the workers. 10,000 armed coalminers went against 3,000 lawmen in Logan County, West Virginia. The battle started on August 25, 1921 and ended on September 2, 1921. The battle was because of years of bitter labor and not getting paid enough money. It was a battle against coalminers and the coal companies. The Battle of Blair Mountain did not last long but it changed a lot. It happened in Southern West Virginia in 1921. On August 7 Mother Jones gathered coalminers and told them to march into Logan and Mingo Counties. This battle changed a lot of people’s lives. One of the nicknames for the battle was “Matawan Massacre.” A lot happened at the Battle of Blair
