In this work of art, we are able to see two females standing still and facing towards the sunset as two older men are on opposite sides of them facing towards us. It seems as though this image depicts individuals who have just finished their workday based on the way in which they are dressed. It is evident that he puts forth some of the same techniques used in Iceberg Blues (Fig. 1) such as the images containing city people and the sunset landscape. Also, the individuals in this painting are not communicating with each other or making any eye contact perhaps because they also have different beliefs and cannot relate to one another.
The figure of the woman seems to be backed up by no background but a white void. This sense of emptiness distantly resemble oriental Chinese painting. The figure seems to dissolve into the void. The composition is integrated and the painting seems harmonious and dynamic due to the curvilinear lines formed by the edges of flat color blocks. There seems to be musical rhythm to the painting.

In 1893, the priced of wheat rapidly declined and once again, there overproduction and Europe pulled out much of its investments. Also, many countries had started using the gold standard and the united states was split by the farmers supporting silver and wealthy supporting gold. Both panics showed the dangers of gaps between social classes.

The Civil War was between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America, which was over a disagreement on the institution of slavery. After the Civil War, the United States banking system grew rapidly and seemed to be set on solid ground. Later, the country was hit by many banking crises. Which one of them was the panic of 1873. This Panic started with a problem in Europe when the stock market crashed.
One angle is also bearing the symbols of the crucifixion like the lance Christ was stabbed with and the crown of thorns. The top part of the painting as a very calming and gentle tone to it. Both panels show Jesus but they look like two different people. On the left he 's lifeless, has no clothes on and seems weak. The middle ground between heave and hell is small.
Over in the middle of the painting, there is a more pronounced aperture looking over a waterway and rocks. The outline of the aperture makes up the shape of the face, the woman sitting down looking over the other way forms the mouth and nose of the face and the rocks at the distance form the eyes. Even the woman’s frame and posture seem to follow the lines created by the railings of the viewing box. The railings are also implied lines, the first thing our eyes go to is the woman, and then we follow the railings to the man who has his gaze set on the woman. The man’s gaze gives us implied lines that lead us back to the main focus of the painting, the woman. The artist also uses light and dark to guide our eyes to the important parts of the artwork. Most of the artwork is dark, while the woman and the man looking at her are in the light.

The portrait represents the beauty of the time period. It holds simplistic colors with detailed shading. The artwork is very intriguing to me. I love the detail in the background, there are tiny brushstrokes that makes up the mountains and sky. Also, I find the shading of the mouth and eyes very interesting.
