Similarities and differences between the time periods of 600 BCE-600 CE and 1900-Present can be traced using drinks such as wine and Coca-Cola. These similarities and differences can be found in the development and transformation of social structures, and through the development and interaction of cultures. It is important to understand the interplay between past and present civilizations. Tom Standage’s “A History of the World in 6 Glasses” can be used to find evidence that supports these claims.
In the social aspect of society both these time periods were able to bring people together, however in the classical era (600 BCE-600 CE) certain people were treated with inequality. Wine and Coca-Cola brought together people in two different ways. …show more content…

This time period was known as the Paleolithic era. During this time period there was less gender and social inequality because everyone had the same task to do. Thus, making this time period a more egalitarian society than the two time periods listed. People were not judged by the possessions or privileges they had. Rather, they were judged by the work they did. The main objective for people during the Paleolithic era was to survive until the next day, many people did not have time to develop or have time to devote themselves to a religion. The Paleolithic era was a time period when life was at its simplest. Development and interaction of cultures and the creation of social structures wasn 't until after the Paleolithic era had ended. Using drinks such as wine and Coca-Cola, we are now able to understand how society has changed and how we, as humans, have evolved. Wine and Coca-Cola help us understand these concepts by making it something we can relate to. Similar to humans evolving, these beverages have evolved with society such as the way we drink it and how to behave while drinking it. Wine and Coca-Cola are more than just beverages, they are symbols that show us the similarities and differences of the development,interaction, and transformation of cultures and social structures during the time periods of 600 BCE-600 BC and
