Marjane and Ophelia’s battle of fame
After reading Persepolis and watching Pan’s labyrinth I’ve noticed they both have similarities and differences. Both these stories are very great, one being a fantasy and the other being a biography. In this essay i will compare both stories from their surroundings in both characters, their families and the type of stories they are. In persepolis marjane was growing up. She lived in Iran where their country was going through changes. War was going on where she lived, she even saw one of the buildings that got destroyed as it states in the book “Iraq invades Iran, and bombs them regularly. Marjane's neighbor's building is destroyed” (Satrapi 142). Ophelia was also in a type of war not much similar to Marjane's. Marjane has both her parents and are very nice and love her. Marjane's parents decided to go on a trip to turkey and they let her stay home since she didn’t want to go. “They go to Turkey. Marji doesn't want to go, but she gives them a list of things she wants them to bring back.”(Satrapi 50). Marjane continues her being with her family but later gets to go away in a different country. Meanwhile in Pan’s labyrinth Ophelia lived with her mother and without her father. Her mother was in rough times and meets a Captain of an army and later decides to have a baby. Ophelia doesn’t get along with her stepfather and thinks she is crazy. Close to the end of the movie ophelia’s mom dies due to the birth of the baby and her father kills her and later also gets gets. Marjane had a little more better ending while ophelia had her mom and herself killed. Marjane and ophelia have very different families. Marjane has her real dad with her while ophelia has a stepfather. Both these stories are very good but one is an actual story and one is made
