Spirited Away (2001) a Japanese anime directed by Hayao Miyazaki, famous for many other anime films such as: Castle in The Sky (1986) and Princess Mononoke (1997). However, it was Spirited Away and its English adaptation produced by John Lasseter that won Miyazaki over 50 film awards from 2002 through 2004. The film manages to capture the principles of Japanese Shinto religion and the concepts of magical realism. Beyond its anime aesthetic value the film incorporates several central themes and symbolization. Miyazaki expertly directs his film and such expertise is emulated throughout the film with its realistic artwork and scenery. The film is more than a children’s anime, it’s a masterpiece redefining what we should expect from any other animation
