I believe that the main point of the Parkland school shooting video was to show the audience that guns were bad for our community and to show all the damage that one person with a gun can do to a bunch of people. The intended audience for this video would be the general public and maybe even those who collect or frequently use guns. The clip used pathos in two different ways to influence the intended audience's opinion. The first way that pathos was used was that the clip played on fear. The whole situation of the school shooting was terrifying, both for the students and everyone hearing about it. Not only do they fear for those students, but they fear for themselves afterwards because they start to think that this could happen to them as well, and that it wasn't just an isolated incident. Not to say that they aren't correct in their assumptions because it could very easily happen to them in their communities, but the strength of the emotions that are present in situations like this make it very easy to get a very convincing message across to the public. This video can be easily interpreted by anyone and the message that "guns are bad and we need to do something to stop it," will come across very clearly. Another quote was "Propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive themselves," by Eric Hoffer. This video indeed provided evidence against guns, but it can't be taken to the extent that no guns should be allowed anywhere by any reasonable person. However, if a person was looking for evidence to ban guns outright, they could use this video and manage to convince themselves and others that guns should be banned.
