Requiring High School students to pass standardized test before they can get a diploma is a debate that has been going on for quite some time. Should we be required to pass these tests? In my opinion, I don’t honestly think we should. For multiple reasons, but it simply puts too much pressure on a student telling them they have to pass or they don’t get a diploma after all the hard work they did for years. Standardize tests are an unreliable measure of one’s performance. Test scores can’t measure learning or tell someone how smart they are. These tests are putting too much pressure on a student, which can lead to anxiety causing them to mess up and fail or even drop out before they are given the test because they’re not good at tests and don’t want to try to get told they failed after 4years. Standardized tests are an unreliable measure of a student’s performance. Performance simply means an action or process of carrying out or accomplishing an action, task, or function. Why should I let a test tell me what I know? I feel like standardized test are more for the school then for us. Instead of holding are diploma against us the district or schools should just give bigger rewards to the passing students like prizes so that way it takes some of the pressure off. Another idea is maybe only make the kids who are failing take the test because as long as a student is passing there classes I don’t see why that alone isn’t proof enough that they understand the material.
