Secondly, Louie is now stranded in the Pacific Ocean and is defiant to the thought of giving up on himself and the others that are stranded. In this example, Phil shows how defiant he is in Louie. Out of all the crewman on the plane, Phil portrayed that Zamperini was the man he wanted beside him on the raft. Unlike Mac, whose actions indicated weakness. Additionally, the quote is showing us that Mac was a pushover compared to Louie’s heroic actions.
Just imagine if you were born with not being able you to do any physical activities. Doodle, also known as William Armstrong, was born just like this. The narrator, which is Doodle’s brother, is very proud of what Doodle has accomplished over the past three years of his rough life. There is a plan for the narrator and Doodle to make his life better, maybe even more than one plan. Doodle is a disappointment to the family, until he does physical activities with his brother.
Throughout history, we have seen many people thinking they can take over on their own, and rule and conquer the world. We have seen it in people, leaders, and much more. You have guys like Hitler, Osama Bin Laden, Stalin, Paul Castellano, John Gotti with many more. They tried to manipulate and conquer but failed because they haven't realized that to rule you need someone else, like Jordan and Pippen, Brady has Belichick and Jay Z had Beyonce. This is also why, you see those people got killed or killed themselves in an attempt to escape reality.
Forgiving someone is one of the best things you could do. However, for you to forgive someone, you must accept what has happened and be ready to move on. Forgiving someone gives them an opportunity to redeem themselves, and allows them to move on as well. By accepting the past, you might find reasoning within the mistakes of the others, and give you as better understanding of how you should act. Forgiveness is a large part of The First Stone, and within the story is a valuable lesson:
Paul Revere was the one who started the midnight ride and it spread quickly throughout the world. He was very brave to do that knowing that he was going to start something. Also he pretty much started from nothing and he wanted to make a difference so he did that. Two of the sources used were “Excerpts from the Letter from Paul Revere to Jeremy Belknap, circa 1798” and The Tipping Point book. Paul Revere connects to the book The Tipping Point because he showed traits of a connector and salesmen in his midnight ride and how he spreads the word that the British are coming throughout his village.
In the story “By the Waters of Babylon” the author revolves around the destruction of human civilization caused by World War II. Stephen Benet shows you the possible threats and dangers of war destruction, which comes to the theme of the story: the outcome and dangers of war. The readers learn in the story that this is long after human inhabitation and humans could be considered as “Gods” during this point in time. Whilst John (the main character of the story) is going east, where he is forbidden to go he enters a place, long ridden of the gods, which we know as New York City. It shows that even one of the largest and brightest cities known to man has also turned to rubble and fragments of buildings.
Flowers symbolize so many things in society nowadays. People receive and give flowers on several different occasions. Flowers are symbols of love, sadness, apologizes, excitement, passion, and many others. Flowers also play a big role in the story “Paul’s Case” written by Willa Cather. The main character, Paul, often gives special meaning to the flowers present in the story.
“No fear, Mom. Show them no fear.” (page 296). In the novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, the protagonist, Paul Fisher, is going through many changes in his life after moving from Texas to Florida. Those changes include external ones, his friends and the environment around him, and internal ones, his views and opinions.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.
Within Ray Bradbury’s short story, “The Veldt”, the difficult character, Peter Hadley is disrespectful, intelligent and ruthless. Peter is disrespectful because he shows no courtesy or manners towards his parents and anything they say. Peter exhibits his disrespect during his argument with his father. Peter would always, “look at his shoes. He never looked at his father anymore”(Bradbury 6).
“A true friend accepts who you are and helps you become who you should be.” Steve and Nathaniel proved that friendship and happiness can be real in the novel The Soloist by Steve Lopez. The way friendship is portrayed in the novel is unexpected in such a way that we don’t see it happen often in our daily life. It is important to our society because finding a true friend is really difficult to find. True friendship is hard to find now in days because we expect many things in return from other people.
The play, Antigone written by Sophocles, presents a tragedy that fits the classical definition, but it is the story of Creon, the king of the main character. Creon starts out as the king of Thebes , Creon’s tragic flaw is his pride and his arrogance which caused him reflecting upon his mistakes making him a broken man, recognizing what he did to his niece, he is a character within Antigone, even though he was portrayed as an antagonist he was the main character since he was. Creon’s tragic flaw, hubris, causes his downfall. Creon will not listen to anyone.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
Reverend Parris is a character in the story called “The Crucible” which is written by Arthur Miller. Reverend Parris is a important character in “The Crucible” and plays a big role in how the story plays out. He is a very smart man and has a okay reputation with the people in salem. He has three major character traits that sticks out throughout the story that makes him make the decisions he does.
Stephanie Plum, Morelli, and Ranger are three main characters in the book, One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a young woman struggling to get by in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. After losing her job, she goes against her family’s request and gets the dangerous job of a bounty hunter. She gets assigned Joe Morelli, who was accused of murder and who happened to be a childhood enemy. Stephanie is very inexperienced and receives help from a professional bounty hunter, Ranger.
