Paul Celan Holocaust Survivor

Paul Celan is a well known poet and Holocaust survivor who was born in Romania, in 1920. Celan was also fluent in Russian, French, and Romanian. Although he was Jewish, he spoke German frequently in his household. He latter on learned Yiddish, a Germanic language blended with Hebrew, from his Romanian school. People who spoke clear German was consider cultured and were allowed to participate in conversations about politics, art, literature and music. In 1938 Celan went to Paris to study medicine. He later on returned to Romania before World War II. Celan 's parents were taken to a Nazi concentration camp during the war while he did work labor at the camp for eighteen months before escaping from the camp. His parents later on died in the camp.
