Paul wrote a letter directly to the first presidency of the LDS church in which he talks about his son committing suicide in February 2016. Paul said that his son Harry was a student at Brigham Young University, a returned missionary and a teacher in his ward. A week before committing suicide Harry posted on Facebook that he was gay. Instead of receiving help and acceptance from others to live a happy life Harry received many cruel comments. As a reply Harry posted how hard it was to be gay in the LDS community and finding no help he decided to drive to the Israel Canyon, west of Utah, and shot himself. His father Paul said the following in his letter to the church, "This is sad, but there is something much sadder for faithful, gay Mormons than cruel comments.
