Embracing the life of Paul Robeson: Why Paul Robeson’s Life speaks to me. Paul Robeson’s life serves as a beacon of inspiration for me. As an honors student aspiring to excel academically and pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon, Paul Robeson serves as an immense inspiration, particularly in his life as an academic. Despite having to endure numerous racial discriminations, Robeson’s unwavering dedication to intellectual pursuits, along with his commitment to social justice, deeply resonates with me and sculpts how I approach my academic and personal endeavors. Robeson displayed a monumental commitment to excellence in education. He acquired several academic achievements in his lifetime. Some of these accomplishments include graduating as valedictorian from Rutgers University, and earning a law degree from Columbia Law School, which exemplifies his intellectual skills and durability in the face of adversity. Throughout his life, Paul Robeson used his intellectual intelligence to advocate for racial equality, worker’s rights and international peace. His incredible research on African American culture and history is what helped contribute to a more subtle understanding of race in America. As an honors student, I am deeply inspired by Robeson’s illustration of using education as a tool for civil change. I believe that the power of education should not be a candle in a skull, but instead be accompanied by responsibility and used to address the injustices of society.
