Introduction On October 19th 1992 witnesses believed they saw twenty three year old Laura Houghteling leave her Bethesda home, not knowing in fact that it was Hadden Clark, a part time gardner who worked for the Houghteling family. What would follow this sighting, and the subsequent missing persons report of Laura Houghteling would be a fascinating murder investigation which would lead to a precedent setting conviction and the capture of a serial killer. This report will investigate the method of Mitochondrial DNA analysis through the DNA typing method of RFLP or Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism. The report will explore the mechanisms of the technique itself along with the benefits and limitations of the technique. This case is
Most of the information is presented in a recessive way rather than a factual statement. Meaning that instead of the author coming out and stating an event or factual evidence they present it in a way that forces the reader to look for it, this is done because some information may not be needed by anyone, someone, or everyone. Lots of information in this book was useful to me in many ways. Reading the story about Melinda has shown me that sometimes, people just need someone to talk to. That even though people may act fine and seem fine they may be very distanced from true happiness because of something that happened in there past, and if they do not have someone that will listen to them then they may allow it to define their future, but, if someone is willing to just listen to them, then they may be able to get past the traumatic event(s) that they are letting define them.
The fact that she can walk away from all those terrible experiences with love for her parents is incredible. Another thing I loved about this book is how it represents her parents, with all their faults, and their poor mentality, at its worst, without anger, or really any judgment, just with the love. If she had been bitter in her description it would not have been as amazing. This memoir was written with forgiveness making me respect her for not only surviving such a strange childhood to become a successful, but for being able to view her past with
Everyone has their fair share of difficulties in life, so Jeannette’s upbringing and story are very relatable. One aspect of her life, in particular, stuck out to me the most: her constant transition into different schools. I only had to switch schools one time, and that was enough for me. I could not fathom going to as many different schools as Jeannette had to, but I guess after awhile I would get used to it.
Whether or not she succeeds is another story, but she was able to connect to her for a bit, which might lead her to act more human and normal in the future. Even though she had some struggle, the accomplishments and things she did definitely outweigh the
His parents' marriage was fraught with tension, and they eventually divorced when he was a teenager. He struggled with feelings of loneliness and isolation, often retreating into a fantasy world where he had complete control over others. As he grew older, these fantasies became more violent and sadistic. While there is no single cause for Dahmer's crimes, it is clear that he suffered from severe mental illness. In addition to his diagnoses of borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia, he also exhibited symptoms of dissociative identity disorder (DID), which can cause people to feel disconnected from their emotions or surroundings.
Francine had limited resources available to her. The concrete services and benefits of income support or material aid, institutional placement, mental health services, in-home health services, supervision, education, transportation, housing, medical services, legal services, in-home assistance, socialization, nutrition, and child and respite care of today would have helped families of abuse just like Francine’s. If Mickey was serious about receiving assistance, counseling would have helped Mickey to identify his issues, but also provided resolutions on how to cope with stress. Awareness is the greatest agent for change, and these services today are available nationwide.
Moreover, it also shows that it was within her reach for her to change (Nester). It is extremely hard to change the way the human mind thinks, but it is possible. The grandmother had to be threatened with her life to finally come to the realization that she is

It would be impossible to access Josef Pieper’s contribution to the anthropological and ontological foundations of human hope without basing the assessment on his book Hope . This essay will firstly address the influence of the theologian St Thomas and the philosopher Aristotle on Piepers thinking and writing. We will also see why Pieper was influenced by Thomas Aquinas. This essay will be based mainly on Pieper’s small book on Hope.
Relationships between two friends that have known each other for years is what always make a book interesting. In the book, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Lennie and george have this type of relation. Lennie and George are two friends who have known each other for a long time and get along fairly well. Despite having some discussions due to Lennie simpleness, they love each other and dream of sharing a house with rabbits. They care a lot for each other as shown in the following quote.
Another point to be made is that people with DID are not inherently evil. This film showed Kevin’s DID in an extreme light, portraying DID as a violent disorder. According to Mass General Brigham, “people with DID are no more violent or dangerous than the general population” (McLean Hospital). The article also states that due to their histories of childhood trauma, many people with DID feel frightened and avoid drawing attention to themselves.
