The American dream is a dream of land in which life should be better and richer for everyone. It’s a land where people succeed to accomplish their ambition of a better life. Most of the people have a different way of defining this American Dream. Unfortunately, for some, it could mean wealth,status,or power whereas for others it could mean companionship, good morals,love,and amity. According to our Declaration of Independence, it entitles every man and woman the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
America is viewed as the land of the free. Free and unlimited chances to strive for a dream. The American Dream consist of working hard in order to obtain one’s true desire in life. However if you fail, all is not lost because in America there is no limit to how many times someone can try again. Although not all will succeed, it is difficult to break the American Spirit.
The “American dream” was once believed to be achieved through sacrifice, risk-taking, hard work, and above all, not through chance. This definition loses all credibility once our American history is truly addressed. In the 1920s, the “American Dream” was something every child and adult dreamt of; however, there wasn’t “equal opportunity” at all like American schools teach us. For many people, especially in the early 20th century, “The American Dream” was never actually accessible. The neverending battle between wealth classes created a greedy and distrustful culture within Americans.
“Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed— Let it be that great land of love […] But opportunity is real, and life is free, Equality is in the air we breathe” (Source C). American citizens believe in the opportunities that America offers. The American dream is the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to prosper and succeed through hard work and determination.
Many have heard of the American Dream. It is the idea by which freedom means that one is afforded the opportunity for prosperity and success reached by hard work in a culture with few barriers. People from all over the world aspire to come to America and live this dream, the American Dream. Millions of immigrants legally enter this county in pursuit of the aforementioned dream; however, each year half a million immigrants enter this country unlawfully (Immigration Reform. 2006. P5).
Statistically, the American Dream is perishing due to the rise of income inequality and the slowing of economic growth. Income inequality is a dominant problem in the United States. The top 1% of the United States occupies 20% of all the country's income, while the bottom 50% only obtains 12%. Since 1980, the average annual income of the top 1% has substantially increased from $344,000 to over one million dollars.
America is known as “The Land of Opportunity” and it established the concept of the American Dream in the 1900’s. The fight for this dream was prevalent even before it was given a name in 1930. The founding fathers wrote this belief into the constitution with the words “All Americans are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights. Among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” .Some Americans believe that the American Dream can still be obtained in the 21st Century with hard work and perservance ; however, a majority of the American population among race gender and class has a different point of view on what America still provides to their citizens because economic insta8bility and lack of equal opportunity.
The American Dream is an opportunity in which a determined person can have exceptional success through dedication and hard work, achieving equality, freedom, and personal goals. As immigrants, my grandparents followed this beacon of hope, and had this one thing in mind: a better life. Coming from
America is nation that proudly believes that they are a land of opportunity and freedom. While others will try and vouch for it. But, of course we can all think of examples of Americans who truly flew up to the top on their own, what matters the most are the statistics. To what extent do an individual’s life chances solely depend on the fact of income and education to their parents? Numbers show that the American dream has become more or less simply a dream or myth.
No matter who you are or where you have come from, you have undoubtedly heard of the American Dream. The idea that no matter who you are or where you have come from, you can do whatever it is you desire in America. What was once one the main driving forces for immigrants to flock to the new world, has slowly changed over the years, but still holds its value in the eyes of those who are looking for a promising new place to live. The American dream might not hold the same awe inspiring sound that it once did, but for many generations before ours it was a beacon of hope that helped build the foundation that the United States was built on. And, still, today the American dream might not be as achievable as it once was, but it is still an important
People sailing across the Atlantic, farmers cultivating their land, and immigrants coming to escape the harsh conditions in their homeland all have one thing in common: they all share one common goal, The American Dream. The American Dream gives people the right to be who they want to be and achieve dreams thought to be impossible anywhere but our great nation. The American Dream is still very much alive and available today for those who are willing to work for it. Our nation is a land of equal opportunity: where second chances are possible and if someone wants to achieve their American Dream, they must have motivation and perseverance.
Although, the American Dream possess different challenges itis still an encouraging goal to achieve, many are challenged through the education system as they take the plunge into future endeavors of academics, which is used as a path to equality among the wealth gap in America. Since the American dream is still alive and the pursuit of equality remains in high hopes; many of today’s general public are after the same thing in reference to American equality; however, the standards of living may differ from one person’s perspective to another. Additionally, some feel that the American Dream has demised over the past forty years. In fact, polling numbers have shown that there is a huge increase in inequality of income gap between gender differences and ethnic diversity in the United States, one reason to accept these facts is a study done in the United States between 1970 and 2005, which proves that the American Dream has income gaps among the studied groups (584).
America is built upon the ideal that every citizen has an equal opportunity to success and prosperity through hard work and dedication. This is also known as the American dream. Many authors have speculated what is most important in grasping the American dream and through reading these stories it can be determined that success, happiness, and freedoms all play an important role in attaining the American dream. The American dream is historically unique because everyone American has the right to it.
“Land of the free home of the brave” when people hear or think of America they think of opportunity, maybe even more than just that. People see America in many views they all have different dreams, different ambitions, and different goals. Most people come to America to be able to have the one thing they couldn’t have in their native country which is a dream and they want to be able to live that dream and make their dream come true. They don’t want to let their dreams stay dreams and though we all have different definitions of the “American dream” we are all just trying to make it come true. The Traditional definition of the American dream is a family with kids and a successful job with a well done education.
The American Dream has the nationality ethos of the United States. It is a collection of goals that everyone born in America has freedom, equal opportunity for prosperity and upward social mobility. They can achieve through hard work in a society with few obstacles. However, the fact is cruel. Nowadays, America’s economic inequality is growing.
